Day 1, Thursday December 28, 2006

After a little more than 3 months at home we are back on the road. It’s sure good to be traveling again. However, we can’t stop thinking about Will not being here with us. He was getting weaker as time went on during the Alaska trip and required a lot of deserved attention to his needs. Sure wish he were still here so we could look after that wonderful boy on this trip too. That being said, we are dedicating this trip to Will. We love you Will and will see you at the Rainbow Bridge someday. We left at 11:00 am today and got as far as Hardy Lake St. Recreation Area about 50 miles North of Louisville – a total distance of 250 miles from Elkhart. Including us, there are a total of three campers here in the entire State Park. We are towing the new CR-V this trip and the motor home pulled it without a problem. The supplemental brake in the CR-V (Brake Buddy) acted strangely by giving an error alarm intermittently for no obvious reason, and I will need to watch it carefully until the problem is resolved. We are only out one day and have no cell phone, and therefore no internet, connection. Seems my cell phone antenna and/or new signal amplifier is mal-functioning. I added a data package to my cell phone plan allowing me access to the internet anywhere the cell phone works. Without it, I only had cell phone access to the internet while in Verizon territory. Not a problem in most city areas, but in the sparsely populated south west and other remote places we seem to go, native Verizon areas are hard to find. However, if I can’t get my antenna and/or amp fixed, it’s all for nothing anyway. (I’ll get it fixed!) South of Elkhart the sky cleared a little and the sun was out. Temperature reached the lower 50’s around Indy and was 41 by “lights out”.

READY TO "ROLL"
