Day 10, Saturday, January 6, 2007

64 this morning in New Orleans and foggy.

Looks like after the beautiful, cloudless, 75 degree day yesterday more rain is in store for today. Just some sprinkles of rain, but about 100% humidity. Went to Lafayette Cemetery for a one hour tour. They are all above ground here - very strange! Ellen is a cemetery freak so maybe she will add to this. While in the area we walked around the Garden District to see all the old mansions and historical sites. Next we drove to the French Market on the waterfront at the southern edge of the French Quarter. We had a late lunch and back to check on the pups. Took too much time and were late to see "Hurricane On The Bayou" at the IMAX as planned, so I watched football and Ellen went to Bourbon Street for the Evening.

A former home of "Anne Rice" on the corner of Chestnut & First in the Garden District. Actually, I should say mansion for these homes are gigantic.

Another view of the "Anne Rice" home. Absolutely beautiful grounds & gardens.

A side view of a home in the Garden District. Constant renovation is going on here, for these homes are centuries old.

A row of tombs in the Lafayette Cemetery, the oldest known cemetery in the U.S. It feels almost surreal to walk around on these grounds

If you are an Anne Rice fan (I am a major fan of the Vampire Chronicles & the Mayfair Witches) this tomb is from her Vampire Chronicles; the place that LeStat would go to rest if he could not make it back to the French Quarter before daylight.

Another view of a home in the Garden District. The Lafayette Cemetery is inside this district.

Jim standing out side of an empty tomb that dates back to the 18th century. Many people have been buried here(don't know where the remains are) now the city owns it and will sell it to another family wishing to purchase it.

Rows of old tombs. Their is a lot of colorful history in this Cemetery.
