Day 34, Tuesday, January 30, 2007

About 55 this morning in the parking lot of Cattail Cove State Park, Lake Havasu, Az

We were sixth in line for a regular campsite with water and electricity today but missed it by one. We were going to have to spend another night in the parking lot. Not what we wanted to do so we drove the car into town and looked at several RV Parks. Found one we liked with space available so we booked for a week.

There are thousands & thousands of RV's in this area for the winter. Unbelievable! Some of the RV parks here have 500, 700, or more sites - and they are full or near full. The park we are in has 260 sites and had 5 open spots when we arrived today. If you haven't seen it for yourself, you will not believe how many people live in RV's for the winter if not full time. And have you ever heard of Quartzite, AZ? It's a little town south of here on I-10 and it is a city of RV's! About 100,000 of them when we went through there yesterday. All the desert around the town is BLM property and free to came on - and many, many people do just that.

Spent most of the day finding a place to stay and then getting resettled, so not much to report. The State Park is 20 miles south of town, so 20 miles into town, lots of driving around, 20 miles back to State Park to get Blue Boy, then 20 miles back to RV Park. But it's 57 now at 8:00 pm so I guess all is good.

I'll take some pictures and post them tomorrow. This area has no Verizon coverage so I can't use my broadband data plan on the cell phone to connect. Must use the RV park service which is good if not too many people are using it, but very slow during most of the day. If access from this campsite is too poor to upload pictures I can go to the office and hook up to the DSL line, but I sure prefer doing so from the campsite.
